Every surface has one switch. Test shows it on a private address that appears nowhere public.

What it's for

Each of the three surfaces — Live display, Phone live, Public live — has one three-way switch on its tile:

  • Off — the surface shows nothing live.
  • Live — the surface shows the race. This is the default for Live display and Phone live.
  • Test — the normal address shows nothing. A separate private address runs the surface as a test, so you can check a screen before the race. That address is shown nowhere public.

The switch is per surface and per event. While any surface is in Test, the race is not stamped as started or finished on the public side, and nothing goes to the public archive.

Steps

  1. On the Timing Desk's Live control card, press Test on the tile you want to check. The chip reads TEST.
Test link ↗ appears on the tile
A surface tile set to Test
  2. Press Test link ↗ on the tile and open it on the screen you are testing. For Public live the test address is the club's public page with the test key (TBC: where the Public live test link is shown on the tile).
  3. Run a few impulses. The test address updates; the normal address stays quiet.
  4. When it looks right, press Live. The normal address shows the race from then on.

What success looks like

The normal address shows the surface only while its switch is Live. The private test address shows it while it is Test, and keeps working after you switch to Live, so a bookmark survives.

If something goes wrong

  • The test link opens but shows nothing: the tile is set to Off. Off is off for both addresses.
  • Someone has the test address: it is private, not secret. Switch the surface to Live or Off if it should not be seen.
