Timing Desk
The timing window: the start queue, the impulses, the finish, the ranking, and the bar that runs them.
On this page
What it's for
The Timing Desk is the window the race is timed in. It reads the timing device, keeps the start queue, pairs each start and finish impulse with a bib, works out the run time and ranks the field, for the ACTIVE RACE and the run picked with ‹ Run 1 / 2 › in the header. It never changes a time: an impulse is what the device sent, and a number is what you gave it.
The screen
- The window bar, left to right: the window tab (Timing 1; right-click it, or press and hold, for the window's setup), + add (another timing window), Sync (synchronise the timing units and check them one minute later, for the FIS timing report), the light (LOCKED / RACE OPEN; see The traffic light), ↑ ↓ (move the selected number up or down the start list), the status buttons DNS DNF DSQ DQP NPS, Re-run, Missed impulse, Clear, and More ▾ for whatever the bar has no room for. Simple desk in the header switches to the simple layout.
- Start (N to go): the start queue in start order, with NEXT TO START marked, and Start impulses beside it (Seq, Num, Competitor, Hour Cell).
- Finish (N on course): who is on course with a running clock, then the finish rows with the Hour cell (the time of day the device recorded) and the run time, and Finish impulses beside them.
- Inter n: one area per intermediate the race has.
- Informations: the timing device and its clock, System A, the B recorded count, Unclaimed impulses and Gaps in the device's counter.
- Records and the Ranking (Event = the race's own rule; Run = this run's times).
- Times: every impulse (All, Start, Finish) and the Journal of what was done.
Before you start
- The run 1 start list drawn, the device connected and assigned to this window, the light green. See Overview.
Steps
- Open Timing Desk in the rail and pick the run with ‹ Run 1 / 2 ›.
- Press the light until it reads RACE OPEN.
- A start impulse goes to the NEXT TO START; the racer moves to On course with a running clock. A finish impulse goes to the first racer on course; the run time appears in Finish and the Ranking.
- To change the start order, select a number in Start and press ↑ or ↓ (or the arrow keys). Only the order changes.
- An impulse with no number (yellow light, a held gate, a stray press): type the bib in the row's number box. A doubled bib is flagged !; the desk leaves both for you.
- A press that was not a racer: right-click the impulse and take its number off, or double-click it to cross it out. It stays in the impulses, crossed out, never deleted; double-click again to put it back.
- A missing press: right-click the racer's row and choose Modify… (see Modify data and hand time), or insert a time of day typed as the box would have recorded it — the dialog shows the device's clock (TBC: the exact door for Insert a time of day on the full desk).
- Give a status with the buttons (see Status buttons).
What success looks like
Every racer on the list has a run time or a status, Not processed reads 0 in Data Management, and the ranking matches what the hill saw.
If something goes wrong
- Nothing arrives: the light is red, the device is not connected, or it is assigned to another window. See Timing devices.
- X is also set on Y. A unit belongs to one window: give each window its own device.
- A finish went to the wrong racer: right-click the impulse, take the number off, and type the right bib. The desk never re-routes an impulse by itself.
- The desk draws nothing as done until the server confirms it; a change waits in the queue while the connection is down. See Offline.
